How to use foo as a mail server

More stuff to come RealSoonNow?...

Compatible IMAP clients

Under the current configuration a mail client must support POP3 or IMAP with CRAM-MD5 password encyption. TLS is planned for later. This means that as of today you are severely limited in your choice of mail clients.

So far the following mail programs have been found to work with IMAP/CRAM-MD5 on foo:

  • Eudora Pro
  • Mulberry
  • Mutt
  • The Bat! (only 10 headers in top folder?)
  • Gnus

The following programs are known not to connect to foo using IMAP/CRAM-MD5:

  • Netscape/Mozilla Mail
  • Outlook
  • Outlook Express

AFAIK all mailers should work with POP3 as foo now uses plaintext passwords here.
